Before I get started let me just state on a visit to the vet's office I learned that there is no real 'average' weight for our birds. Each bird is his/her own fiddo and his or her weight may not be the perfect weight for another. For example. Monte, at 139 grams is over weight. She came to me at 143 and, although she is eating like a little piggy as caiques do, she has lost 4 grams in this past week. And she still needs to loose more. I will fill ya'll all in when I give ya'll the report on her vet visit. But, just keep in mind that as long as your vet is telling you that your fiddo is fine, then he or she is fine. This compilation and comparison of weights is just more for fun than to say what a fiddo needs to weigh. :)
A quick run down of the meaning of Mean, Meadian, and Mode
Mean is just average. That simple. :)
Median is the middle figure. For example, if you have 11 numbers and they
are 1, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 7, 7, 8, 9, 9 the middle number, the median, is
3 because it is 5 spaces from the first number, and 5 spaces from the
last number.
Mode is the one that appears most often. In this case it is 2. There are
three twos. No other number appears three times.
The minimum and maximum weights were not used in the average (mean) weight, however they were used in median, and mode. The reason the minimum and the maximum are dropped is to give a more realistic average. It attempts to remove from the sampling the participants that may be either well above, or well bellow the general population. That keeps them from skewing the average too much.
